Quick Wit Madison

When I exclaimed "I AM smarter than a 6th grader", Madison started singing "For the First Time in Forever" from Frozen.

How Madison celebrated her 9th Birthday

So on Canada Day 2015, Wednesday July 1st, Madison and Jaclyn had their swim lesson at Kingsgate Pool.  Then we hung out with the Oje boys, and had donuts.
Then the afternoon was spent with the Moore's.  We had lunch at Din Tai Fung (4 orders of juicy steamed dumplings plus other yummy food), spent time at the Lego Store, and then the Microsoft Store.
For dinner, Michael, Jaclyn, Madison and I went to the pool, BBQ'd sausages and celebrated poolside.  It seems that a birthday picture in a bathing suit in front of a donut has become the annual tradition for this little one.

Madison's Birthday Wish - to donate her birthday!

The day before Madison's birthday, I had asked her what Madison wanted to do with her birthday.  Does she want presents?  What does she want?  Her reply was, "I want my friends to donate to the poor people who need clean water."
So I created a CHARITY:WATER birthday campaign page for her with the goal of $90, and posted it on Facebook.  Within minutes she got $49, the first donation from cousin, Rachel and then from my friend, Joan.  So we thought, well, $90 might not be a high enough goal, so we raised it to $190.  Contributions started pouring in, even from strangers from FB, and a friend we know from Little Gym gave $100.  She raised her goal to $309 and then to $409.  Donations stayed at $347 for awhile, then the Woo relatives chimed in, and helped Madison achieve her goal of $409.  Currently, $489 has been raised.
100% of the money raised goes to funding water projects in Africa.  CHARITY:WATER is an amazing charity, and has done great things already.  https://my.charitywater.org/madisons-9th-birthday

I am so proud and thankful for Madison's generous and compassionate spirit.  How many 9-year olds do you come across that doesn't want more presents but wants her friends to donate money to the poor people instead?  What a special heart she has!

A Note to my Dad for Father's Day (June 21, 2015)

Father's Day was tough this year, Dad, because my heart still aches for you.  You are and will always be my best friend, best supporter, best example and best love.

The other day, I cried for you and my sweet Madison said, "Oh mamma.  Let me turn off the TV", then she gazed right through me with her big eyes, felt my pain, held me and stayed with me until the moment passed.  I have learned that grieving never ends.  It comes in waves.  And that's okay because grief proves love.

My heart is beyond broken to be apart from you even 2 years later.  The hope and promise of eternity doesn't even begin to erase the pain, but the pain does ease just a little as time goes by.  I will never fully adjust to your absence; I don't think I am meant to.  At least not until that faithful day when Jesus, and you, welcome me into His everlasting presence...to be together...forever.

As a family, we walked with you as far to Heaven's gate as humanly possible.  Even though I missed the last Easter with you and was not with you when you passed, my thoughts and prayers were with you always and daily.  I am thankful that your transition to Heaven was peaceful.  That peace continues to cover me.  I am thankful that you are now fully healed and completely whole with two hands and a clear mind.

Love you, Dad, always and forever.  Thank you for giving me life.  Happy Father's Day!

Madison's view of teenagers...

Madison to her sister a couple of days ago...

"Jaclyn, you are going to be a teenager soon and that is really sad.  You are going to have big boobs and be all makeupy.  I don't want to be a teenager."

Chinese New Year superstition

CNY fell on Feb 19th this year.  Dad's birthday.  Here's a Jaclyn quote on CNY:

Me:  "Do NOT eat meat for the first meal on Chinese New Year's Day!"
Jac:  "Why?"
Me:  "Because it is not good to kill lives at the start of a year."
Jac: "Yea, but the animal was probably killed a coupla months ago."

Taj Mahal

I said to Michael, "Are you going to build a Taj Mahal to display your love for me?"
Jaclyn said, "He doesn't have enough money!"

Real or not real?

On the way to church two days ago, Madison was asking about if something was real (about the musical "Into the Woods").  Is it real in the story?  Is it real?  Etc.  She kept on persisting because obviously Jaclyn and I didn't understand what she was getting at.
We kept saying it is NOT real.  It is a story.  "Yes, but is it real in the story?!!!"
Anyways, it ended with Madison very frustrated and upset.
So I said, "I am sorry Madison that Jaclyn and I couldn't answer you in a way that was satisfying.  I am sorry that you are frustrated."
Then Jaclyn said to me, "Did you learn that from a parenting class because it sounds like you did!!"
