All the Way to Heaven

Today, I overheard Jaclyn tell her daddy, "I love Duh Duh all the way to heaven." (Duh Duh is what my kids call my brother.)
Then Michael said, "Who do you love more? Duh Duh or Mommy?"
She said, "Duh Duh. I love him all the way to space."

It's nice to know exactly where I stand. Sometimes.

Stuck in the Moment

Last night I got upset about something (no details given), drove off in my car, balled my eyes out and phoned my brother. When I finally pulled myself together, I headed back home. Michael was putting the kids down so their room was dark. Good...I was able to hide my swollen eyes from them. Then Jaclyn, out of the blue, just came up to me and sang U2's "Stuck in the Moment", and all of a sudden I felt better.

Here are lyrics to the chorus and sung by the mouth of a babe:
"You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in the moment
And now you can't get out of it
Don't say that later will be better
Now you're stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it."

(To carry on with some of the lyrics:)
"You are such a fool
To worry like you do...oh
I know it's tough
And you can never get enough
Of what you really don't need now
My, oh my."

(And then the last lines of the song are:)
"It's just a moment
This time will pass."

As I am a big fan of U2, both of my kids know many of their songs including this one and "Beautiful Day". Leave it to my 4-year old to make me feel better by singing this song. How appropriate. I love my kids.

Beginning Sounds

I just had to show off my daughter, Jaclyn's school work. I love her art work and I love the fact that she picked Madison for her "m" word.

Watching and Waiting

Jaclyn's school was cancelled this morning due to the smallest amount of snow. Just the slightest fall of snow and school is cancelled. I don't get that. I remember last December when snow was anticipated for the next day so they cancelled school. When we woke up that morning, there was not one bit of snow on the ground. In fact, it didn't snow until 4pm that day. I bet the people in Calgary and Edmonton laugh at us, wimpy Pacific Coasters.

So this morning, I took the girls to The Little Gym to burn off some energy. Madison's Super Beast class was first so Jaclyn had to wait in the lobby. Jaclyn looked bored, tired of waiting, and was blunt in telling me so. I felt like telling her, "Now you know how Madison and I feel everytime we have to wait for you to finish your gym class or kung fu class". I wonder if she would understand that.

Watching and waiting. Sometimes it's fun but often it's boring & even painful. But that's what we often have to do. Watching our loved ones in their various exercises, waiting for them to learn their lessons or their lessons to end.

Today is my first blog - LET'S CELEBRATE!

Today is my first day to blog. I have no idea what I am doing but I want to record LIFE for posterity for my two beautiful girls, Jaclyn who will be 5 in a month and Madison who is 2 1/2. I want to be, amongst other things, a celebratory parent to commemorate milestones with my kids. To quote, "While we are living in the present, we must celebrate life every day, knowing that we are becoming history with every work, every action, every deed". And thus, here I am on this blog journey...TO CELEBRATE...whether it be birthdays (in this picture, the kids are celebrating my dad's 78th birthday), Christmas, the first day of snow, learning how to tell the time, swimming without water wings, or going pee pee in the potty.

LET'S CELEBRATE!!
